Murray Achieves PMT Certification

DuBOIS, PA  – Mike Murray, Regional Sales Manager at Atlas Pressed Metals, recently became certified as a Powder Metallurgy Technologist (PMT) by APMI International (APMI). Atlas Pressed Metals is a family-owned manufacturer of sintered metal bushings, bearings, gears and structural components located in DuBois, Pa., with 90 employees.

Founded in 1959 as the American Powder Metallurgy Institute, APMI and its members seek to advance both innovation and awareness of the powder metal industry through publications, education and collaboration among members, according to the APMI website. The PMT certification program was created by APMI to recognize individuals’ broad knowledge base within the industry, encompassing powder metallurgy and particulate materials.

Murray, who has been with Atlas for 15 years, passed the PMT Level I proficiency based on completion of a written exam and his longevity in the industry. Continuing education is a requirement to keep the accreditation current.

Prior to his position in sales, Murray worked on Atlas’ estimating team, spending the majority of his time working with experienced peers as they developed pricing based on costs in processing, materials and design. In this role, he worked closely with the engineering and quality departments.

“I give a lot of credit to my colleagues, especially the Pfingstler family members, for sharing their industry knowledge and insight with me over the last 15 years,” Murray said. “In our industry, learning is never ending, and we are fortunate enough to have valuable resources in our team members for hands-on education. The Pfingstler family is also a big supporter of continuing education and personal and professional development.”

Murray, who holds a Business Administration degree from Penn State University, said he hopes others in the industry, including his peers at Atlas, will take on the challenge presented by the PMT certifications.

Murray is a member of the DuBois Volunteer Fire Department, a past member of the DuBois Civil Service Board, and past chairman and current member of the DuBois Watershed Committee. He and his wife, Laura, live in Reynoldsville with their daughter, Madison.
